Program Description:
AmsterdamHighlights

Two-week stay in Amsterdam
Day trips to Utrecht and Rotterdam
Available as capstone seminar for Communication majors and an elective for non-majors

Program Overview

This six-week course will give students the opportunity to explore sexual communication in the Netherlands, a culture that prioritizes openness to sexuality, decriminalized sex work, and comprehensive sex education. Sexual communication will be examined in a variety of contexts (e.g., within the family, institutions, and the media) and relationship types (e.g. short-term and long-term). The first four weeks will take place in the classroom at UMass Boston, where students will be engaged in student-led discussions about topics including hook-up culture, sexual consent, and sexual health. The course culminates in a two-week stay in Amsterdam where students will visit museums, listen to guest speakers, and participate in sexuality-related excursions.
