AXD 300 Survey of Graphic Design
Faculty Leader:
Professor Alison Poor-Donahue

Dates: May 13 - 21, 2019

This course offers a comprehensive survey of the historical and cultural events, technical innovations, art and design movements and important designers and typographers that have formed the origins of the art form that we now call graphic design.

This course includes a travel component to London with the entire class and professor for 7 days, May 13-21, 2019 and will emphasize London’s rich visual tradition as one of the world’s most important cities for graphic design. The city’s design literacy is nurtured by generations – old signage and graphics of the London Underground, its museums of fine and applied arts, as well as the largest concentration of design and advertising firms in the world. Taking advantage of the resources within London allows students to make meaningful connections in their own work. Course requires permission of instructor and students must go through an application process. The itinerary is subject to change at the discretion of the trip leader and/or of the UMassD administration.
