The University offers opportunities for students to take time out from their own institutions and spend either one semester or a full academic year at Queen's. Study Abroad is particularly popular with students from North America, Canada and Australia. For details on how to apply, accommodation and other information, please visit the Study Abroad programme webpages.

Orientation and Arrival Programme
An Orientation Programme for new international students is held prior to the first semester in mid-September. A second programme is also held in late January. Both programmes give new students the opportunity to meet the staff of the International Student Support Office, other academic and administrative staff, Students' Union representatives and other students.

Information is provided on adjusting to university academic study, life in university accommodation, living expenses and local immigration requirements. The programmes include tours of the University's academic and recreational facilities and the City of Belfast. These programmes have proved very popular. They help new students to adapt to University life at Queen's.

Students will be required to attend the Welcome and Orientation programme for new students prior to the beginning of the academic year. The programme covers basic academic and practical matters and enables students to familiarise themselves with the University and living in Belfast before they  commence their studies. Full details of the programme, along with an International Student Handbook, will be available online to applicants from July 2015.   The Handbook contains a range of useful guidance on preparing to leave for the UK, arrival in the UK, immigration advice, living in Belfast, studying at Queen’s and other general information.  This will be updated for 2015 entry. However, for information purposes, the 2014 handbook can be found on the University’s website.
