Academics
The New England/Que´bec Student Exchange Program provides UMass Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell students the opportunity to spend one or two semesters at one of the participating universities in Que´bec. The Que´bec campuses offer a wide variety of learning environments and an impressive array of course offerings. While on an exchange, students also enjoy Que´bec’s vibrant cultural scene, natural beauty and extensive recreational opportunities, including excellent skiing.

Most of the universities are primarily French-speaking, requiring that students have a very strong command of French in order to enroll in classes.

Bishop’s University is the only member university that offers the vast majority of its courses in English. Students may take courses in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education or the Williams School of Business.

Special Summer Opportunity for French Language Study
In the past, the Universite´ Laval has offered the opportunity for students to take intensive French language courses specifically designed for foreigners during the summer tuition free. Students were responsible for some modest fees as well as their travel and living expenses. Several UMass students have taken advantage of this program. If you are interested, please contact the IPO to inquire whether this program is available for the summer you intend to participate.

Academic Calendar
The academic calendar in Que´bec is very similar to the United States with the Fall semester beginning in September through December and the Winter semester beginning in January through May. Each of the participating university has their own semester dates. Please check the website of the university or for specific information.

Housing
The specific details on housing options vary by university. Once you have selected the university you would like to study at please contact your advisor for guidance.
