Program Description:

UMass Boston  Waterford, Ireland - Waterford Institute of Technology

Waterford Institute of Technol   Waterford Institute of Technol

Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is one of the largest of the Institutes of Technology in Ireland, and was the first among them to be awarded that designation in 1998. As the major provider of higher education in the South-East region of Ireland, over 6000 full-time and over 3,000 part-time students attend WIT at all levels, from undergraduate to doctoral students. Waterford is the fifth largest city in Ireland and has a cost of living lower than others. Located in a beautiful region with mountains, rivers, historic buildings, archeological remains, and a long coastline, it is referred to as the "The Sunny South-East" on account of its warm and dry climate.

To apply for the Exchange Program:
  1. Confirm that this program works for you both academically and financially. Many courses at WIT are not equivalent to 3 US credits, meaning you may be limited in course requirements you can fulfill beyond electives. Check the courses offered and speak with your academic advisor on which courses you should try to take while abroad that will count towards your degree. If you are receiving financial aid or want to apply for financial aid for the study abroad program, contact Nicole.Brennan@umb.edu so you know what you can expect in aid for the program.
  2. Once you are sure this is the program for you, apply on this website for the program (click apply at the bottom).
  3. Once completed, contact the Office of Global Programs to have your nomination submitted to WIT. From there you will also need to submit the exchange application through WIT directly: https://www.wit.ie/international/exchanges/incoming_students

COURSES
WIT is divided into six separate schools, Business, Engineering, Lifelong Learning and Education, Health Sciences, Humanities, and Science, each responsible for a wide range of programs and research activities. The popular and extensive School of Business boasts nearly 2000 degree-seekers majoring in Accounting, Administration, International Business, Financial Services, Marketing, Business Information Management, or Retail Management. At WIT classes are generally small and the faculty offers a great deal of individual attention. Please scroll down to "Course Transfers Reference Table" to see how courses from WIT have transferred to UMB.

To find a list of available courses, click here. Either type in the area of study, or click on the school in which you plan to study, and then click on the specific major. Lastly, click on the "Outline" or "Modules" tab for a list of available courses for each semester. Please keep in mind most courses at WIT transfer as 2-2.5 US credits.
