Program Costs (in USD): 
  • Program Fee: $2800.00
    • Covers all inclusions listed below (see clarification on round-trip airfare, below).
  • UMass Lowell Tuition/Registration: $1050 (3 credits) see: https://gps.uml.edu/tuition/
  • Round-trip airfare (Boston – Havana for dates listed on brochure page: estimated $600.00-800.00 
Payments for Program Costs:
  • Tuition and Program Fee - billed to the student via the student billing system in SiS.  All student charges follow the University winter intersession bill due dates (contact Solution Center).
  • Round-trip airfare – students must submit payment to the Office of Study Abroad by October 08 via check, money order or credit card. Invoices will be provided once group flight is held. Students will be provided itinerary details in advance of payment request. 

Out-of-pocket costs:
Personal Spending - Students are encouraged to plan for $500 for personal spending money (one meal daily and free time expenses/needs.) Currency and budgeting will be reviewed in-detail during pre-departure orientation.

Cultural Learning Inclusions (subject to change):
Walking Tours of Old Havana – A walking tour of the historic part of the city as well the Art Deco of the old city
City Tour: Plaza de la Revolución, Bosque de la Habana, 5ta Avenida
Guest Lecturers – Relevant to the course topics and activities
Day trip to Guanabo beach
Cuban Dance Class - Watch and learn the traditional dances of Cuba
Cuban art gallery or workshop
Visit a local baseball team or event
Visit to CENESEX, the Cuban National Center for Sex Education
José Martí Memorial
Finca Vigia & walking tour of “Hemingway’s Cuba”- The home/museum & areas of Ernest Hemingway
Museum of Revolution
Attend the Cañonazo Ceremony at El Moro fortress
Museum of Fine Arts - A museum dedicated to housing Cuban art collections 

Student Housing & Board Inclusions:
  • Shared occupancy in Residencia located in Havana within a beautifully restored home located in the Vedado neighborhood; rooms are overseen by local host/host family organized by UML partner on-site - Academic Programs International. Double, triple, and quadruple occupancy rooms. Laundry service once a week, Weekly cleaning
  • Please note that Wi-Fi is not available at most private residencias as Cuba does not yet have the infrastructure to support access in homes. Internet cards can be purchased on-site for access to the public Wi-Fi network at various Wi-Fi hotspots in the neighborhood.
  • Daily breakfast and dinner included (breakfast and lunch only on Saturdays and Sundays). Meals are taken in the residencia dining room, which may also be used for group discussions and debriefings.
  • Welcome and farewell meal, 5 additional group lunches 

Other Inclusions:
Round-trip airfare Boston - Havana, Airport Transfers in Havana, in-country transportation and entries to itinerary items in Cuba, all gratuities for itinerary items in Cuba, Int’l. Insurance, 24-7 on-site support, emergency phone card, Cuban health insurance, Pre-departure & On-site orientation – cultural, health, and safety, itinerary

Student Commitment:
  • I am committing to participate in the Special Topics in Honors, Havana Program.
  • I understand that if I withdraw after September 10, I will be subject to any charges incurred by the university with a minimum charge of $600.00.
  • I understand my passport must be valid for 6 months post the last day of travel and be submitted by September 10th to the Study Abroad Office.
  • I understand the cost of my flight is not included in the Program Fee and is due by October 08.
  • I understand that if I apply for financial aid, my aid can be reduced and/or cancelled if I add/drop/withdraw or do not attend the international experience.
  • Course Information:
    • I understand the program requires one, 3 credit UMass Lowell class, “Cultural Immersion in Cuba”, HONR.3200
    • If selecting the additional course option, “Cuba: Perceptions and Realities”, HONR.3200, 3 credits  I understand this will incur additional tuition cost through my student account via SIS.
